Who-
This project is a self portrait, so my subject will be myself. The other subject of the photo, the song, is by one of my all time favorite bands, and partly the reason I started playing music, Sound Tribe Sector 9.
What-
The props that I am going to use for this shoot will be my drum kit and possibly my hand drums as well. The Song that I have chose to represent me is "Music, Us" by STS9.
Where-
For this shoot I am going to pack up my drums and head out to the Maumee river. Either Otsego Park, Wier Rapids, or the old bridge in Waterville. I am constantly being inspired by nature and the wonders that surround us each day. That inspiration is what keeps me going in life and musically. The river will give a great nature back ground for this shot of me in my drumming and creative element.
When-
I want this shot to be very bright and happy feeling so I am going to do this shoot in the afternoon hours on a sunny day sometime between Oct. 1st and 8th.
Why-
I chose to use this song and my drum kit because music has changed my life over the past 7 years. From seeing my first shows back in early high school to actually teaching myself to play the drums and starting a band with my best friends in college. I am really happy with the person that I am becoming and music is playing a huge part in that. Having me sitting at my drums playing out in nature in front of the river should communicate my two passions in life.

Project 2 Rationale
Why-
I chose to imitate this professional photographer for two reasons. The first being he shoots in a really clean and crisp way. His photos make me feel like I am right there experiencing what the subjects are experiencing. The other was the fact that he actively produces multi-photo images of similar subjects. And since we needed to do both of those things for our project 2 it seemed like the logical choice. As for my approach to my images I wanted to show baby Stella's face up close looking very innocent. And then in the next shot you see what's actually happening, her mom is changing her diaper. I wanted to have a very warm and motherly feel to the shots so I made sure to do the shoot on a sunny day with lots of sunlight coming through the window.
How-
In order to make the shots feel very warm and motherly I did this shoot at four o'clock on a sunny day. The nursery that we did the shoot in has windows running all along the south wall. This allowed the light to flood the room and make it very light and airy feeling. I was really impressed with my little model for this shoot. She looked right into the lens on many of the shots and was a complete delight to work with.
Critique-
On this time through with my camera I felt much more comfortable setting up the exposure on the camera. I was really pleased with the lighting, and color of the images. They needed very little post production color touch ups. This time through I also was able to lower my ISO from the first shoot and reduce the digital noise substantially.

Assignment 3 Plan
Who-
For this assignment my model is going to be my roommate and band mate Evan Kiehl. He will make a good model for this shoot because he has a great passion for music and more specifically playing the guitar. I think it would also be good practice for both of us. Practice being the model for any promotional shots our band will be in, and good practice for me shooting promotional work.
What-
The props for this shoot will be Evan's guitars, his amplifier, and effects pedal. I am going to try to incorporate his two guitars into the shot, but it may work out better to just have him wearing one around his shoulder. I am going to try both and see which works out better in the composition/
Where-
This assignment will be shot in the VCT studio in the Technology building.
When-
We will be doing this shoot next Thursday night at 6:30.
Why-
Like I said in the "who" section I chose Evan for this shoot because our band will be doing more promotional photo shoots in the future, so I thought it will be good practice for both me and Evan.

Assignment 2 Plan
Who-
For this assignment I have chosen to recreate the style of the photographer Lorne Resnick. More specifically the lifestyle portraits of Lorne's portfolio. I found his work online, and really liked his use of depth of field and overall composition of his works. I will be recreating his style of diptych. He shoots part of the subject very close for one of the pictures, and then shoots the rest of the scene so you see what is actually going on. The subjects of my shots will be my girlfriend Sasha again, and her adorable niece Stella. I chose them because the new baby is a sight to see so I think she will make for a good subject.
What-
I plan to have one of my shots be a close up of Stella laying on her changing table making a funny face. The other shot I plan to have Sasha changing Stella on her table. I want to show the different emotions the two are feeling while both being in the same situation. Stella with her unaffected innocence, and Sasha with her very annoyed look.
Where-
The location that I have in mind for this shoot will be the changing room of Sasha's sister and brother in law. This room has great lighting coming from the windows that run the length of the room at eye level. It also would be where this scene would actually be taking place in real life so it is quite appropiate.
When-
This shoot will be taking place on Tuesday afternoon when the evening sun is coming through the windows at the right angle. I want the images to have that bright and happy feeling, to give the impression that even though she is dealing with poop she still enjoys it because of the strong love that ties families together.
Why-
I think that this shoot will be successful because the style that I am imitating is one that is very well done and if I can successfully recreate it the images will be very strong.

Project 1 Rationale
Why-
I chose to show the emotion of sadness in my image by incorporating the color blue throughout the shot. I tried to make blue the most dominant color in the frame by dressing my model in all blue and turquoise. I also had her hold some blue flowers to further emphasize my plan. I also tried to give the color photo a light blue tint to everything in the photo, again, further emphasizing the blue for sadness. The location of a cemetery was chosen because it carries with it a great stigma of being a very sad place to be.
How-
For this shoot I knew I wanted to show the subject kneeling down placing blue flowers on a gravesite looking very sad. Luckily my model does in fact get quite emotional when she visits graveyards, so it worked out to my advantage. I knew that I wanted to shoot very tight, so that I could show the emotion on my models face. I didn’t want it to be an extreme close-up though, because I also wanted to get the point across that she is actually at a graveyard. My compromise ended up being that I would shoot very tight incorporating almost an over the shoulder shot from the gravestone’s point of view. It took a couple of tries but I eventually found the framing that I had pictured in my head.
Critique-
It has been quite some time since I have gone out and shot photos on manual mode again, so this assignment was like a re-learning experience for me. Once I had found the appropriate exposure for the lighting that day I just started shooting according to my plan. I didn’t realize it until I had looked at the photos on the computer that there was in fact some slight digital noise in some of the pictures. Including my best shot of the day that I was planning on using. I don’t think it takes away much from the shot overall though. I think the composition of my shot is quite strong, and when I look at the picture it does make me think “blue for sadness”.
